On-Demand Knowledge
Making knowledge transparent and available to all employees on demand: this is the goal KfW is pursuing with its internal video portal, which is based on Omnora Authoring Automation. With Omnora software, all employees can create and share learning videos. The video portal was developed as part of the "KfWplus" transformation agenda, under the title "Learning NEW Things Together," led by the HR department.
Stephan Heyne, Head of HR Talent & Competence Management, describes the motivation behind it: learning needs and the way people learn have changed, and video portals and user-generated content play a key role in this.
“Learning needs and the way people learn have changed. Video portals and user-generated content play a key role in this.”
Employee-Generated Content Requires Simple Tools
While KfW's HR department was previously responsible for developing learning and training content, KfW is now increasingly focusing on content created by employees (so-called user- or employee-generated content). For such strategies to be successful, it is important that technical hurdles are as low as possible – as Katrin Kretzschmar, Senior HR Manager at KfW, emphasises.
“I have personally experienced how videos can be produced and edited with Omnora – even by amateurs like me, meaning people who are not technically experienced.”
Launching the Video Portal at KfW
An internal KfW project team, comprising representatives from the HR and IT departments, was formed for the introduction of the video portal. The solution provider Omnora supported the team with specialists for successful project implementation and strategic consulting.
As part of strategic stakeholder communication, targeted events informed management, executives and key personnel at KfW about the innovations and benefits of the video portal.
More than 60 employees from across the organisation were selected for the first pioneer group. With their diverse interests, specialisations and hierarchical levels, they represented the requirements of all employees and became a decisive success factor for the rollout. In a second pioneer group, another 50 employees tested the video portal exclusively before the organisation-wide go-live.
The company-wide rollout was then accompanied by articles on the KfW intranet, special newsletters, and information and onboarding events.
Rapid Success
Less than four months after its launch, 57 hours of knowledge content had already been published on the KfW video portal. Around 2,200 employees – almost a third of the workforce – had already registered as users. This demonstrates the strong interest and high acceptance among the staff for employee-to-employee learning using the KfW video portal.
“The decisive factor was the collaboration with Omnora's Customer Success Team, which simply has a lot of experience with such implementation projects, and also ensures the long-term engagement of our colleagues afterwards.”
Awarded the eLearning Award
The launch of the KfW video portal was honored with the "eLearning Award" by the eLearning Journal. The editorial team justified its decision by noting that the jury believes the video portal not only makes learning faster and more needs-oriented, but also preserves knowledge that would otherwise be lost in the long term. The KfW video portal is a simple solution that provides all employees with access to knowledge content whenever they need it "on-demand," making learning simpler, more efficient, and more effective.
