SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) and xAPI (Experience API) are the two standards through which learning content communicates with learning management systems (LMS).
SCORM is the established standard: a course is exported as a package, imported into the LMS, and reports completion and results back. Practically every LMS supports SCORM; that’s why “SCORM-ready” is the entry ticket for mandatory training with documented completion records.
xAPI is the more flexible successor: it logs learning events outside the LMS as well (“watched video X”, “passed quiz Y”) and suits modern, distributed learning.
A practical hurdle of classic SCORM packages: every content change requires re-exporting and re-importing the package. Omnora Authoring Automation avoids this with remote updates: the SCORM package inside the LMS updates itself without re-import, across all connected systems.
