The two terms are often used interchangeably, but they describe different approaches.
Knowledge management organises existing documentation: repositories, wikis, intranets, search. It answers the question “Where do I find what someone wrote down?” Its known weakness: around 42% of job-related knowledge is documented nowhere (Panopto/McKinsey); it stays invisible to even the best knowledge management. Add the adoption problem: without active curation, content ages and contradictions go unnoticed.
Intelligence Management starts with the undocumented knowledge. It captures actively, for instance through AI expert interviews, validates the result for correctness, currency, and consistency, and delivers it where work happens: as articles and training for people, as verified context for AI systems.
The short version: knowledge management makes documents findable. Intelligence Management makes experience usable.
